PIR sensors are rather generic and for the most part vary only in price and sensitivity. Most of the real magic happens with the optics. This is a pretty good idea for manufacturing: the PIR sensor and circuitry is fixed and costs a few dollars. The lens costs only a few cents and can change the breadth, range, sensing pattern, very easily.

PIR sensor is used as occupancy sensor. PIR sensor is passive sensor as it senses infrared signal emitted by various objects including human body. They are used as alternative to microwave sensors. PIR sensor houses pyro-electric sensor as shown in the figure-2. PIR sensor generates energy when exposed to heat.
These sensors use a PIR sensor, with a much narrower field of view, of course, than PIR motion sensors. It will not only detect IR radiation, it will also register the intensity of that IR radiation. By comparing it to established baselines using some fancy algorithmic tools, it can translate that intensity to a numeric temperature.
The PIR Sensor which we are using in this tutorial consists of three pins. Two of them are power supply pins such as VCC and ground pins. We can power PIR motion sensor directly from the ESP32 power pin as shown in the above schematic diagram. The center pin is the output pin which provides an active high pulse whenever motion is detected.
